The gunfight raged after joint parties of police army and paramilitary forces cordoned off the area when they received the information about the movement of terrorists in the area.
During the exchange of fire three terrorists were killed.All the slain terrorists are locals from Kashmir.
ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that among the 3 terrorists two have been identified as Lateef Ahmed Lone of Shopian who was involved in the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Purana Krishna Bhat, and Umer Nazir of Anantnag, involved in the killing of Till Bahadur Thapa of Nepal.
He said that an AK 47 rifle and 2 pistols have been recovered from the site of the encounter.
This encounter took place after month. Last time it was on November 20 when as per police a terrorist associate Sajad Tantray of Kulgam involved in the attack on migrant workers was killed in terrorist firing when he was with them to identify a militant hideout in Chek Dudo Bijbehara area of Anantnag district.
