27 Dead After Massive Fire Engulfs Mundka Building

NEW DELHI: At least 27 people died while several others were injured after a massive fire broke out at a four-storey building in outer Delhi’s Mundka area on Friday.

According to the fire department officials, 27 fire tenders are at the spot to douse the flames.

A fire official told The New Indian, “A call of fire was received at 4.30 p.m. following which 25 fire tenders were rushed to spot to douse the flames.”

Till now 27 dead bodies have been brought out, the official said.

At the time of publishing the report, 27 fire tenders are at the spot to douse the flames and several injured have been rescued out of the building.

Outer Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Sameer Sharma said that the fire started on the first floor of the building, which houses the office of a CCTV camera and router manufacturing company.

Following the loss of life in the massive fire in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter and wrote, “Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a tragic fire in Delhi. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Office announced Rs two lakh ex gratia to the kin of victims.

The PMO in a tweet said, “Rs 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the fire in Delhi. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM Narendra Modi.”

President Ram Nath Kovind also took to twitter and wrote, “Distressed by the tragic fire accident at a building near Mundka Metro Station in Delhi. My condolences to the bereaved families. I wish for speedy recovery of the injured.”

Union home minister Amit Shah also condoled the death of people and said, “The incident of fire in Mundka is saddening. I am in constant touch with the concerned officials. The administration is engaged in relief and rescue works. NDRF is also reaching there soon. Our priority is to evacuate people and provide immediate treatment to the injured.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi too expressed his concern and tweeted, “Pained by the tragic loss of lives in the Delhi fire near Mundka Metro station. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.”

Reacting to the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Shocked and pained to know abt (sic) this tragic incident. I am constantly in touch wid (sic) officers. Our brave firemen are trying their best to control the fire and save lives. God bless all.”
