The police officer said that year 2022 witnessed 100 fresh recruitments into terror ranks, which is 37 per cent less than last year. 65 of the new recruits were killed, 17 were arrested and 18 are still active in different parts of Kashmir valley.

Kumar said that 360 weapons besides IEDs, sticky bombs and grenades were recovered which averted major tragedies.

“This year huge quantities of weapons (360) were recovered during encounters and modules’ busting which include 121 AK series rifles, 08 M4 Carbine & 231 pistols. Besides, timely seizure of IEDs, Sticky Bombs and Grenades averted major terror incidents,” the officer said.

He further informed that 29 civilians were killed by terrorists in the year 2022 and all militants except two involved in the killing of civilians have been neutralized.

“During the year, a total of 29 civilians were killed by terrorists including 21 locals (6 Hindus including 3 Kashmiri Pandits and 15 Muslims) and 8 from other states. All terrorists involved in these terror crimes have been neutralised except Basit Dar and Adil Wani who will be neutralised soon.”

On the law and order front, police achieved 100 per cent success in peace and stability. “From 2897 cases of law and order incidents in 2016 to 26 minor cases in 2022. No civilian lost life in firing while handling L&O problems in the last more than 3 years,” he said.

The total number of terrorists active in the Valley has been brought down to double digits and all chiefs and top commanders of terror outfits have been neutralised except for HM’s Farooq Nalli and LeT commander Reyaz Sethri.

“We are continuously identifying potential terrorists through technical surveillance and human intelligence. Besides, effective parents cooperate with JKP in this process. So far more than two dozen boys have been brought back and are living happily with families,” the ADGP said.

With a focus on effectively tackling the drug menace, the Kashmir Police registered 946 cases and arrested 1560 people in connection with cases of drug smuggling this year. “Besides 132 drug peddlers were booked under PIT Act. Huge quantities of contraband were seized, including 11.8 kgs of brown sugar, 46 kgs of heroin and 200 kgs of charas,” he said.

2022 did not witness any shutdown, street violence, stone pelting, especially at encounter sites, internet shutdown, and funeral procession of killed terrorists.

Pakistan-sponsored online terrorism is a challenge now like spreading fake news/propaganda and targeting journalists/civilians through Pak-based news agency KMS, Telegram channels, and online portal (Kashmirfight), the officer noted.
