2 Terrorists, Civilian Killed In Shopian Encounter: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar: Two terrorists of proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba and a civilian were killed in Shopian south Kashmir encounter on Friday, Inspector General of Police Kashmir (Zone) Vijay Kumar said.

IGP said that civilian had given shelter to the terrorists and they later shot him dead.

The encounter broke out in Amshipora village of Shopian after 44 Rashtriya Rifles, Police and Central Reserve Police Force cordoned off the area to flush out terrorists. After the cordon, searches were undertaken following which terrorists fired upon a joint party of security forces.

“Encounter has started at Amshipora area of Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted soon after the encounter broke out on Friday morning.

Later, police said two terrorists of LeT were shot dead by security. “ShopianEncounterUpdate: 02 terrorists killed. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered. Search going on. Further details shall follow,” police said in another tweet.

“Based on a specific input of police about the presence of (militants) in village Amshipora, Shopian, a joint operation was launch during the late night of 24/25-02-2022,” IGP Kashmir said.

“After a cluster of houses were taken into cordon, following the drill, civilians were evacuated to safety. Thereafter, house to house searches were started in the wee hours to locate the hiding terrorists”.

During the searches, he said, the terrorist came out and resorted to indiscriminate firing. “In the indiscriminate firing of the terrorists, one civilian Shakeel Ahmed Khan, son of Abdul Rahim Khan, resident of Amshipora, was seriously wounded. The injured civilian while being evacuated for medical help succumbed to the injuries”.

The fire by the terrorist, Vijay Kumar said, was retaliated effectively in which both terrorists were neutralised.

He identified the militants as Muzamil Ahmad Mir, son of Ab Hameed Mir resident of Chatripora, Shopian and Shariq Ayoob, son of Mohd Ayoob Wagay resident of Bonpora, Amshipora, Shopian.

Valley police chief said that terrorist Muzamil was involved in several terror crimes. Both the killed terrorists belonged to outfit LeT. He said incriminating materials including Arms- one AK 56 rifle and one pistol and other Ammunitions were also recovered from killed terrorists.

The police along with security forces arrested three active terrorists including two hybrids of LeT outfits from Budgam and Baramulla. Besides, one terrorist associate was also arrested. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition have been recovered from their possession.

“Acting on specific information about the presence of terrorists in Aarath area of Budgam, Police along with 2RR arrested an active terrorist of proscribed outfit LeT identified as Yasir Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmed and a terrorist associate identified as Irfan Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmed Dar, both residents of Allahpora Budgam,” police said. “Incriminating materials of proscribed terror outfit LeT, arms & ammunition including 01 Chinese grenade, 01 AK Magazine, and 30 AK rounds were recovered from their possession.”

“Police in Baramulla along with 32RR arrested two-hybrid terrorists identified as Muzamil Ahmad, son of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh, and Mohammad Yaseen, son of Ghulam Nabi Sofi, both residents of Chakloo Baramulla,” police said. “As per police records, the duo was missing since 16/02/2022. On their disclosure, 02 Chinese Pistols, 02 Magazines, and 12 Pistol rounds were recovered.”
