NEW DELHI: In a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district, at least 12 lives were lost in a massive road accident during the early hours of Thursday. The collision occurred on Farrukhabad road under the jurisdiction of the Allahganj police station when a speeding dumper crashed into an auto-rickshaw carrying passengers. The primary cause of the accident was reported to be low visibility due to dense fog.

Reports indicated that the collision was fatal, with all 12 occupants of the auto-rickshaw succumbing to the impact. Among the victims were women, elderly individuals, and children. The Superintendent of Police (SP), Ashok Kumar Meena, explained that the tanker collided with the auto-rickshaw, which was approaching from the Jalalabad side.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the affected families and urged officials to prioritize the immediate treatment of the injured. He also directed authorities to provide all possible assistance to the families of the deceased.

SP Ashok Kumar Meena, accompanied by District Magistrate Umesh Pratap Singh, was en route to the accident site to oversee the situation and coordinate response efforts. The victims’ identities were yet to be established, and their bodies were slated for post-mortem examinations.

The tragic incident underscores the perilous conditions that dense fog can create on roadways, leading to devastating accidents. The state government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s guidance, is focused on providing support to the affected families and ensuring swift medical attention for the injured. The road safety implications of such incidents highlight the importance of heightened caution and preventive measures, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
