JAMMU: Ten people were killed and 33 injured after a bus carrying pilgrims to Shivkhori in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi was attacked by militants on Sunday. The bus, transporting pilgrims to the Shivkhori temple, came under attack in Teryath village in the Poni area.

A rescue operation was launched, and reinforcements from the police, army, and paramilitary forces rushed to the scene. This attack marks a significant escalation in terrorism-activities in the region. Reasi district has been relatively untouched by such incidents compared to neighboring areas such as Rajouri and Poonch.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Mohita Sharma, stated that the driver lost control of the bus due to the firing, causing it to plunge into a gorge. She mentioned that the passengers were non-locals, and their identities have not yet been confirmed.

Initial reports indicate that terrorists fired upon the passenger bus traveling from Shiv Khori to Katra. As a result, the driver lost control, and the bus fell into a gorge. “Thirty-three people were injured in the incident. The rescue operation has been completed,” she told reporters. “The identities of the passengers have not been confirmed yet, as they are not locals. The Shiv Khori shrine has been secured, and area domination has been carried out,” she added.

On Saturday, J&K DGP RR Swain, during a police public meeting in South Kashmir’s Pulwama, stated that 70-80 foreign terrorists who have infiltrated into Kashmir are threatening the current peaceful situation in J&K.
